E(a)rnest is the first album in Kim Salmon's 14 year, 9 album 'solo' career to feature only the vocal, instrumental and songwriting talents of Kim Salmon. E(a)rnest is about the singer and the songs. Others may impress you with their noise through the smoke and lights of the party but E(a)rnest is for taking home. E(a)rnest is for lounging about with on a crisp spring day or enjoying in the intimacy of your fireside couch. A final word about E(a)rnest: Even if you're expecting the unexpected, it won't be what you expect. Contains a new reading of Cool Fire which was previously performed by the Beasts Of Bourbon. This is Kim's first release since 1999's Record (hac86) which was a full band release by Kim Salmon & The Business on Half A Cow.

From the original bio:

One time leader of the much revered swamped-out noise merchants The Scientists and former axegrinder/songwriter for the most brutal (and sometimes beautiful) Beasts Of Bourbon, Kim Salmon has also been doing his own thing since about 1985 with help from his mighty Surrealists. Having released a bunch of classic albums such as Hit Me With The Surreal Feel, Sin Factory, Just Because You Can't See It Doesn't Mean It Isn't There on the very cool Red Eye label, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists jumped aboard the 'Cow in 1997 to release what many consider to be their best album to date in Ya Gotta Let Me Do My Thing.

Oozing back porch charm and Vegas smarm, Ya Gotta Let Me Do My Thing features 60+ minutes of music was recorded in Kim's kitchen and then mixed by the great Jim Dickinson (Alex Chilton, Big Star, Ry Cooder) in Memphis.

Kim Salmon & the Business

Plus FREE You're Such A Freak (hac68) 5 track cd EP.

As if a personal resume that's made Oz rock history isn't enough, princely Kim Salmon continues to sit at the cutting edge of contemporary rock with his album Record. Salmon has never pretended not to be enamoured of the bluesy, raunchy past of R&R, but he's also managed to make music that's edgy and intense and never wholly derivative. He's always added an Australian spin that's rung true across the globe, established by his old work in the Beasts of Bourbon and confirmed by his more recent solo efforts. The self-produced Record features a co-writing credit with Warren Ellis of the Dirty Three and guest appearances by Dave Graney and Clare Moore, all extra-tasty embellishments on an album that's full of Salmon's usual sassy flare, honest guitaring and even a sprinkling of hip-swinging horns. Contains the singles Saving Me From Me (hac85), Disconnected (hac88) and I'll Be Around (hac95).

released March 2000

1. Disconnected
2. Disco Neck Ted
3. Dubconnected

Kim Salmon & the Business

Track 1 from Record. On Disconnected Kim connects with Ben Green from High Pass Filter. He also reconnects with Antenna by getting Mr Chill and Justin Frew each to provide a separate subVersion/perVersion of this same song that will have you wondering if your brain has been disconnected and replaced with someone else's, although it will still be your brain, just a new connection with a less fuzzy image of Kim Salmon circa 2000.

I'll Be Around Escobar Remix EP

released January 2000

1. I'll Be Around
2. Anticipation
3. I Was The Lord Of Darkness
4. I'll Be Around (LP version)

Track 4 from Record. All other songs previously unreleased. Like the previous single Disconnected, track 1 it has been re-mixed by Stu and Justin of Southend/Antenna fame (calling themselves Escobar this time) but this time it has a more broad appeal in it's style (rather than the techno onslaught of Disco Neck Ted). This time around the re-mix will be the first track, followed by a re-mix of another album track Anticipation, a new acoustic track which hints at Kim's next direction The Lord Of Darkness and to finish the EP off is the album version of I'll Be Around which was co-written by Dave Graney and Mark Arm from Mudhoney.
