Another one-man band who goes under the name of Stress Of Leisure - wowing the crowds in his bedroom. His real name is Ian Powne and he hails from the suburb of New Farm in Brisbane. The Stress Of Leisure demo has five songs and we like what this guy does. The first track didn't really do it for us but the next one 'Shy' has such a great driving beat and late 70s plinks and plinks throughout that it made us sit up and listen. Very cool. stress
The voice is reminiscent of Marc Bolan especially on 'Yoko's Presents' - my favourite track. When he multi-tracks the lead vocals it has such an inviting sound to it, and the lyrics (this time the signs are as uncertain as before/you know what I say but you are cooler/I know Yoko what's it to you) make it even more intriguing. Despite the obvious home-recording sound of the tracks, there is definitely talent and potential in the songs and style of Stress Of Leisure. -SH
