This weeks DOTW comes to you courtesy of Half A Cow's work experience student - self-described 'guitar legend' Tom Spittles, 16, who plays guitar in local Cowra band '15 Minutes Of Failure'. cycleoffifths
Retro-ish* sounding guitars with nice catchy choruses - this band is talented and are promising. Cycle Of Fifths, who are from Sawtell (south of Coffs Harbour), brings a combination of funk with strong lyrics and rockish sounding fills. The songs aren't typical of one genre as they incorporate lots of 'different sounding techniques' (with a more commercialised 'Tool'-sounding lyrics on track 2) - very talented but not mainstream. An interesting mix making them quite diverse. Even though each song differs they still possess a unique sound. Ultimately, these 'surfy' guys in thongs pose very different guitaring techniques but it actually works - their music isn't for everyone but that isn't to say they aren't worth listening to. Final comment: Though random it's spruce. -TS
