I can't say that I have an interesting story to go with co-winners, Sydney band Sugarhit. Don't know them at all and even thought it was a girl singing the first few times I played it (actually, it wasn't until looking at their website that I realised it's a bunch of very clever guys living out their pop dreams). What I can say is that the Sugarhit mini-album Takin' For A Ride isn't a demo -it's a proper release (it even has a barcode) and is downright excellent, especially the tracks 'We Go Round' and 'Wherever We Want' - they have HIT emblazoned all over them. Incredibly catchy, infectious, sugar-filled (like their name) pop. Both Sugarhit and The Wellingtons cds arrived around the same earlier this year so I decided I was going to do a Sydney versus Melbourne! Who's more bubblegum! It's A Tie! DOTW. And here it is. True pop will never die. Kurt really did. The kids are singing high and happy. And here's the proof. The Wellingtons and Sugarhit take the cake.
We're selling the Sugarhit cd over at the Shopping page - so if you're interested, get onto it!
