This is the debut EP from Brisbane four-piece Capital. If there's one word to describe the music it would be up. From the songs to the beats and guitar tones, it's all up, up and away. It sounds like a cross between early Midnight Oil and UK late 70s band the Members. Midnight Oil! The Members! Okay Capital, calm down, we know you guys are a modern band that obviously love the art-rock stuff like Pulp and Franz Ferdinand but we can only hear the angular and sharp ruminations of the classic new wave era of 1979-1981. And ain't nothing wrong with that.
The songs all have a similar sound to them, which is no bad thing (step up to the stage, the Ramones!) and I can imagine that live on stage these songs would really make their mark and get the kids up and dancing.
All four members of Capital sing and this gives added excitement with lots of backing vocals coming in and out. The standout tracks are 'Wonderful', which has such an incredibly catchy chorus you wonder if you've heard it before, and 'Star of the season'. All in all, good stuff!
