The Lost Husky

DYNAMYTE

In 1980, at age 10, Chris started his first ever “band” DYNAMYTE, inspirited by viewing Countdown every Sunday night after tea, despite not actually being able to play any musical instruments beyond kindergarten-grade castanets and tambourine. Early performances were limited to miming KISS, Skyhooks, Mi-Sex and Adam and the Ants songs with his classmates at recess.

Some decades later, as The Lost Husky, Chris had been writing and recording a bunch of songs that didn’t quite seem to fit the mould of his solo work, or the various other bands he’d been playing in. Over the years the collection of disparate lo-fi garage-rock songs grew exponentially.

Finally, having received some worthy sage advice, the realisation dawned that The Lost Husky could be pretty much anything Chris wanted it to be. And so, he has finally collated eleven tracks into one LP, aptly named in tribute to that first concept-band-that-never-was…DYNAMYTE.

“I Was An Extra In A Nicole Kidman Film b/w Fucken’ Beauty”

Two old songs unearthed from The Lost Husky’s formative years at the turn of the millennium. They tell the stories of Chris’s ill-fated teenage attempts at impressing thespian starlets and showing off to other girls while riding in his best friend’s cooler-than-cool EH Holden. Recorded entirely in friends’ lounge room studios, the songs lay forgotten for more than 15 years, and have now been lovingly restored for your discerning ears.

A Sunken Treasure

Recorded over 10 days from April to June in 2005, A Sunken Treasure was originally planned for release as one complete album. However, for reasons now lost to time, The Lost Husky shelved some tracks and split the album into two single/EPs over the course of several years.

Now, ten years after the initial “Almost Me, Almost You” EP was released, The Lost Husky and Portable Hole Recordings have finally compiled the album as it was intended, as one complete document of those sessions. Including some previously unreleased tracks and guide demos, A Sunken Treasure is now receiving a long overdue chance to breathe again.

Les Aventures de The Lost Husky

Born on the trails of inner western Balmain, The Lost Husky was the solo project of Chris Newton, once the bass player in Sydney’s indie-funk upstarts Psyclone Smyle. Released in 2003, this LP features his particular brand of introspective folk and alt-country with sixties pop influences and a bit of whatever is in the pantry thrown in for good measure.
