Simon and the Harmonic Sun Travellers: Every Day In The Sun album out now!

Byron Bay-based Simon and the Harmonic Sun Travellers’ album for the ‘younger generation’ available now on cd and digital download. An album for kids – with a difference. As well as versions of “Puff the magic dragon” and “Skip to my Lou” you get covers of the great 60s San Francisco band Moby Grape, Australia’s very own 70s prog act Tully and Vashti Bunyan’s “Lily pond”. The album also includes the single “Chicky Chicky Chick Bok Bok” which has already been getting some airplay (no lyrics, just chicken sounds!).

Simon (along with Alison Galloway of Smudge and The Sticker Club) started his first band Jupiter at 18, playing on the Sydney music scene and they released a couple of EPs on the Summershine label in the early 90s. Moving to the UK, he eventually formed another band January, who were signed in 2000 to Alan McGee’s Poptones label, releasing their debut album I Heard Myself In You internationally in 2001.

Fast forward into another lifetime, Simon found himself living in the Northern Rivers of NSW. While working as an early childhood teacher, ideas for arrangements and how the album could sound started to form. In spring 2022 Simon started recording Every Day in The Sun at Golden Tone Studios, north of Byron Bay. Guests include Rod Coe on double bass (Rob was the longtime Slim Dusty bass player and also engineered the classic Saints song “I’m Stranded”).
